From the outside, it looks like a quiet,
sedate shed sitting in the precincts of the Samford Showgrounds. On any day of
the week, you might see a fleet of cars parked outside – which gives a hint
that at least something is going on inside the Shed.
Inside there is a hive of activity going
on – from woodwork, steel craft, art work and even photography. This is the
home of the Samford Area Men’s Shed – we call it SAMS.
Although there’s a lot of activity going
on in the Shed, the most important activity is to offer a place where all men
are welcome to a safe environment where they’ll find acceptance, friendship and
fellowship with other blokes.
Although the Shed is open Monday to
Friday from 8am to 4pm, the best time to visit SAMS is on a Tuesday morning. This
is the day that the men get together for the weekly meeting that we call a ‘Talk-fest’.
The men start arriving at about 9am and spend time, just chatting over a cup of
coffee, tea, a ‘bikkie’ or two.
So…….where the heck are we? The Shed is located
at the far end of Showgrounds Drive in Highvale. Just turn left in through the
gates near the high voltage electricity tower.
